African Americans comprise anywhere between 60%-80% of the total American Cognac Market. In 2007-2008 America imported 51.7 million bottles so even if 60% of that was consumed by African Americans thats a whopping 31.2 million bottles of cognac. One of the reason cognac became so popular among African American population is because of celebrity influence. Hip hop artists have long been fan of “yak” as they like to call it and mentions can be found in numerous songs.
But hip hop artist Ludacris isn’t singing about cognac, he recently launched his own. Chris Bridges aka Ludacris is not new to entreprenurial ventures and this might certainly be a right venture to dive in. With the recession trying to heal itself in US and globally, cognac sales are seeing better results once again. Ludacris visited Bordeaux last year in January and acquainted himself with all that goes behind making fine cognac. The cognac known as “Conjure” was made after carefully tasting more than 40 different brandies to create a product that reflects the taste and personality of Bridges.
Conjure will be sold in about twenty countries. Below are some images for you to take a look at from the cognac launch party.
We’ll have to wait and see if any other hip hop stars will join Ludacris and launch their own cognac.

Great article. We’re located in Atlanta and I had no idea that he had a brand of cognac. I’m a fan of his music and I’ll look for it the next time I’m shopping for alcohol.
I live in Randolph, Massachusetts and would just love a new swing on the cognac scene….looking forward to it!!
I’ll try it just because I want to suport Luda!
