Miami Cognac 2009 – June 11, 12 and 13

A few weeks ago we had exchanged emails with le-cognac.com and we knew they were planning an event here in US. Le-Cognac, The Cognac Guild and Cognac Inc. have put together an event that will be held in Miami on June 11, 12 and 13. The story behind the formation of Cognac Inc. and Le-Cognac’s feat to bring these cognac to the US market is a very interesting and a noble one to say the least. Most cognac drinkers, especially ones who enjoy cognac every once in a while are unaware of smaller cognac houses since the market is dominated by the bigger brands such as Hennessy, Remy Martin, Courvoisier, among many others. The goal of this event is to allow amateurs to find out about other small cognac houses that have been producing cognac for years and some for centuries. There are 22 Cognac Guild houses that participate in the Cognac Inc. project.

We will be covering more about Cognac Guild and Cognac Inc. since there is a lot more to be written about them. We are glad that these folks have taken the step to bring small cognac houses to the US market who usually aren’t able to market their product due to tougher laws and high expenses associated with them. These smaller cognac houses mostly survive by selling most of their products to the big houses and only few can survive on their own without selling their cognac to the big brands who then use their brand name on the bottle. 60 years ago their were 800 independent Cognac makers and today there are 300. We are glad to see that Le-Cognac, The Cognac Guild and Cognac Inc. has made it their goal to change all that and bring the small cognac houses to the US market.
