Cognac is usually referred to as one of the most expensive alcohol in the world. Although the habit of cognac can get pretty expensive, there are good affordable cognacs. When it comes to alcohol prices though, cognac isn’t alone in the expensive category. As we were looking around on the web, we came across some alcohols that were priced pretty high. It wouldn’t be an overestimate to say that the prices of some of these alcohols almost make us feel like we are living in a shack. When we say some of these alcohol are priced higher than the houses (or mansion if that’s what you have) we live in, hopefully we are saying the truth. Please take a moment and check out 5 of the world’s most expensive alcohol of all time. The list starts from the cheapest (among most expensive) to the most expensive of them all.
The Wray and Nephew Rum that was displayed at Rumfest, Europe’s first Rum festival has been dubbed the most expensive rum of all time. This bottle of rum, made by the Jamaican distillers was one of the four unopened bottles at the time. It was bottled back in 1940. The reason this rum became so rare is because the supply ran out following the then famous Mai Tai cocktail (1934) which used 17 year old Wray and Nephew Rum. The managing director of the Rum Festival at the time said that it was too tempting to leave it unopened. We are not sure if it has been opened yet.
Before I write any more on this section I apologize to anyone who might take offense to me using the word “whiskey” instead of “whisky.” It is just a personal preference. Anyway, for a whooping $75,000 dollar The Macallan 1926 Fine and Rare steals the show as the most expensive whiskey of all time, at least at the moment. You certainly won’t be able to find this particular whiskey at your local bar or the liquor store.

The $225,000 Tequila
The highest amount ever paid for a bottle of tequila is $225,000. The platinum and gold plated bottle of Ultra Premium Tequila Ley .925 was bought at an auction in Mexico city in 2006. The tequila in the gold and platinum plated bottle is triple-distilled mix of 8-, 10- and 12-year-old agave plants and is produced by Hacienda La Capilla Distillery in Los Altos, Jalisco.
With a price tag of $160,000 1787 Chateau Lafitteis is considered to be the most expensive wine of all time. The bottle originally belonged to the US President, Thomas Jefferson whose initials are etched into the bottle. Thomas Jefferson was an avid wine collector and some lucky (rich) wine collector paid $160,000. Besides the age, Thomas Jefferson’s initials etched into this bottle made it even more of a rare find and is considered to be the most expensive wine ever bought and sold.
When it comes to vodka, the first thing that comes to mind is Russia. Surprisingly, the most expensive vodka comes from the lands of Scotland. The Diva Vodka is the world’s most expensive vodka which almost looks like a perfume bottle. Every bottle of the Diva vodka contains precious and semi-precious stones, including diamonds. The vodka is triple distilled and then passed through a sand of crushed diamonds and other gems.
Well, seems like cognac which is considered to be one of the most expensive drinks in the world takes the crown. Henri IV Dudognon Heritage which costs around $2,000,000 is the most expensive alcohol in the world. This particular cognac was aged for 100 years in barrels that were air dried for five years before use. The final product is 41% alcohol (82 proof). Besides the content, the bottle itself has quite a few characteristic. The bottle is dipped in 24k gold and sterling platinum and adorned with 6,500 brilliant cut diamonds.
If you would like to learn more about cognac you are at the right place. Please take a moment and browse our site. There are many other alcohol that are expensive and out of reach for most of us. The above mentioned alcohol are considered to be the most expensive of all, as far as we know. If there are any that you would like to share please go ahead and use the comment section. Have a great weekend and if you end up enjoying one of these don’t forget to invite us. source

Dude, this rocks! You could never drink them. Or you’d probably go to hell…
You mention that you “apologize to anyone who might take offense to me using the word “whiskey†instead of “whisky.—
However, The Macallan is neither. it is a scotch, because it comes from Scotland.
The difference is that whiskey is brewed in the US. It’s the same discrepancy with champagne. A champagne is only a champagne if it is made in Champagne, France. Otherwise it is a sparkling wine.
Not trying to be nit-picky, just wanted to clarify
This Jefferson bottle was purchased by Malcom Forbes and was later determined to be another fake bottle produced by the discredited Harvey Rodenstock. The TJ initials we made using an electric dental tool which, of course, didn’t exist in 1787. There is no record of TJ ever owning this bottle and the experts at Montecito also claim it is a fake. TJ apparently kept a record of every bottle he ever purhcased when he was living in France and this one wasn’t on his list. Read the excellent book “The Billionaires Vinegar”. This website is providing bad information…

Gibbs… [sigh]
You must be silly to think there wouldn’t be any rich people left after either economic or societal collapse. All that would mean is that the gap between rich and poor is even greater than today.
Think of it like an exclusive country club. There will still be members at the club, maybe just not as many.
To Peter_Kuhn,
Actually both are correct. Whisky from Scotland is “Scotch Whisky”. according to Macallan’s own website http://www.themacallan.com/splash.asp
I don’t think it’s really relevant if the bottle itself is hefting the majority of the value. I mean, I can take a $16 bottle of Bacardi Rum and dip it in gold and glue $482,000 in diamonds all over it. THERE!! Genius!!! The most expensive rum in the world!!!
I think a better idea would be to publish the most expensive actual liquors taking into consideration only the value of the liquor itself, unopened. Just a thought.
I would have thought there would be a vintage bottle of absinthe there. I know some exist…
I find it unfortunate that some of these alcohols made the list. Half of them seem to be priced so high because of the bottles in which they are contained. Boo.
I agree with DG. There are only 2 bottles on the list that are priced for the alcohol itself and not the bottle it comes in. You should call this list “The most expensive bottles that alcohol comes in”.
Peter_Kuhn, they put “whisky” on their own label. I was taught that the Scots don’t use an “e” and the Irish and US do – that is “whiskey.”
drinker, the book is a great read but I didn’t read it was conclusive. I would side that it is a fake but searched and couldn’t find anything definitive, just positions. In fact, I believe the related case is still being litigated. In any case, the $$ was paid for the bottle so that part is true.

You missed one… At the Graycliff Restaurant at the Graycliff Hotel in the Bahamas one of the world’s oldest wines is in residence. The restaurant, which serves Bahamian fusion food, has a comprehensive wine cellar that includes the 1727 Rudesheimer Apostelwein from Bremer Ratsfeller in the “Rheinghau” region of Germany which is considered to be the oldest drinkable wine. at $200,000 – and it’s a half-bottle.
They probably taste the same to anyone who has any bit of a liver left.
Eish… I never thought 2 mil can also buy a bottle of alcohol and leave u with no change. Amazing or crazy? Crazy..
Whiskey was invented by the celts of Ireland. The first and earliest record of whiskey is from Ireland in 1409. The first record from Scotland is 1494. With that said, the Irish way is the most correct…WHISKEY. The scots omit the E in most of their writings, but they got their receipe from Irish monks. This is from all the research I have done, just so all the non-Irish can stop trying to take credit. The one thing the Scots did was take the process to a higher level and make it into a true religion. The Irish seem to be impatient and willing to just inbibe in their religion without the crazy aging.
The Americans who distilled American Whiskey, aka bourbon, were mainly of Irish heritage, so the Whiskey spelling here is Irish too.
I just hope one day Americans will take to whiskey and start distilling all over this great counrty. Think of all the different waters, soils, grains, altitudes, and ethnic merges that would be used in distilling a true American whiskey…my mouth is watering.
Most Expensive Brandy
Mendis Million Dollar Bottle, which is the first bottle in the world of a new category “Coconut Brandy” as approved by the US TTB, TTB ID: 08283003000003, that comes signed by the founder of The House of Mendis from 1947.
Unlike all these above mentioned products, Mendis holds a US federal COLA as the first of its kind, this means the product has intrinsic value due to the rareness of the liquid and personal signature marking of its founder. This bottle legally holds value by its first of its kind classification by the US government, something that non of the above mentioned items can say for themselves.

The Celt, you are technically correct, but the Celts did not name it Whiskey. The Celtic did not speak english. So it would be debatable to say which spelling came first.

It’s a shame that some people are still unaware of the human cost of diamonds. Probably not the kind of people that drink these though.
What a sickening waste.

Not sure what all the arguing is about. There is no “personal preference” involved here. If a bottle of “scotch whiskey” is spelled with that E in there, it is not a bottle of scotch whisky at all. It is nitpicking in as far as spelling goes, but it’s not nitpicking in as far as discussing whiskies. It makes all the difference in the world.
And if you ever spend lots of money on a pretty looking bottle of said ’scotch whiskey’, you have been scammed. Short of a (what would admittedly be a rare and valuable) error in the labelling of a bottle, no Scottish distillery with a semi-literate manager would ever dream of spelling it that way.
Hi The Celt.
You’re a moron. 1409 as anybody that comes from the uk will tell you is roughly yesterday. Whisky is a lot older than that. Grow up you dumb yank. All the celtic nations made whisky the sour mash you know and love is Welsh.
Christ bloody colonials
