Last week, we reported on a tasting of the Remy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 that fetches $22,000 a bottle. Today, Forbes is featuring a cognac they claim is the world’s most expensive cognac, Cognac Croizet Cuvée Leonie 1858.
A bottle of Cognac Croizet Cuvée Leonie 1858 will set you back about $150,000 a bottle, if you can find it. The Hong Kong InterContinental is serving 40 milliliters (about 1.3 ounces) for about $8,800 making it according to the Guinness Book of Records the “Most Expensive Shot of Cognac.”
Cognac Croizet Cuvée Leonie 1858 is made from grapes that were planted during Julius Ceasar’s Gallic campaign around 55 B.C. The vines that produced these grapes were destroyed during the French Wine Blight, making this cognac irreproducible.
In the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel InterContinental Hong Kong, travelers can now enjoy the world’s most expensive cognac, Cognac Croizet Cuvée Leonie 1858, by the glass. The hotel’s chief sommelier, Andy Au, had the honor of opening this prestigious bottle in an exclusive event last November.
Cognac Croizet, founded in 1805 by Leon Croizet, is one of the oldest cognac houses in the world and is known for producing single vintage cognacs. The 1858 Cuvée Leonie is a unique vintage made from grapes planted by Julius Caesar’s armies in 55 B.C., and it is the only cognac left of its kind due to the Great French Wine Blight of the 1870s.
The InterContinental Hong Kong’s relationship with Cognac Croizet extends to offering the world’s most expensive cocktail, The Winston, which incorporates the Cuvée Leonie 1858. The hotel also provides a one-of-a-kind VVIP Presidential Suite Cognac Croizet Experience, a two-part adventure that includes an overnight stay in the Presidential Suite, a full bottle of Cognac Croizet Cuvée Leonie 1858, and an exclusive chef pairing menu.
The second part of the VVIP experience is a trip to the Cognac Croizet vineyards in Charentes, France, near Bordeaux. Guests will enjoy a one-night stay, a tour of the estate, a cognac blending tutorial, gourmet dining, and an intimate tasting.
