When you visit the cognac cellars in France you notice that spider webs are often everywhere.  We have been told by a few cognac houses that the spiders are “good luck.”  Apparently they eat anything that would want to eat the wood of the cognac barrels.  Thus they are welcome in some cellars as partners in the process.
