Hennessy is the largest cognac house in the world. Founded by Irish immigrant Richard Hennessy in 1865, Hennessy commands approximately 40% of the world cognac market. Hennessy produces a full range of quality products from its V.S. to Paradise cognacs. Hennessy is now owned by French luxury goods conglomerate Moet-Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Cognac sales have hit a record each year for the past three years. Martell has boosted its cognac sales in China as a result of marketing Cognac to go with meals, rather than as a merely a pre or post dinner drink. Cognac’s growing popularity in part is also due to increased use of Cognac in cocktails.

The Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) has been reaching out to bartenders and offering education and tours with the goal of creating cognac ambassadors behind bars across the world to increase Cognac consumption.

Hennessy promotes copious use of its product, especially its V.S., V.S.O.P. and Black Cognacs, as cocktail mixers.

Hip Hop artists are also an important part of cognac promotion and Hennessy’s Big Apple Cognac Cocktail, a Cognac and Calvados creation is inspired by the Hip Hop icon NAS.

The Big Apple Cognac Cocktail

The big apple cognac cocktail features Cognac and Calvados apple brandy, which is named, like Cognac after the region in which it is produced. Calvados is made from eaux-de-vie of apples grown in the Calvados region of Normandy in Northern France.

To make a Hennessy Big Apple you will need:

Cognac

Hennessy VS 1.5oz.
Calvados apple brandy .5oz
.25 oz herbal liqueur
1/3 oz agave nectar
.5 oz fresh lime juice
2 dashes aromatic bitters
1 dash cherry bitters
Garnish: pear fan
Cocktail glass

DIRECTIONS

Add all liquid to a shaker tin with ice. Shake until well chilled, strain into a rocks glass with crushed ice, garnish with a pear fan.
